When you see this poem, post a poem in your LJ,

So, here's my pick
The Death Of The Ball Turret Gunner
by Randall Jarrell

From my mother's sleep I fell into the State,
And I hunched in its belly till my wet fur froze.
Six miles from earth, loosed from its dream of life,
I woke to black flak and the nightmare fighters.
When I died they washed me out of the turret with a hose.

Isn't it? Read it at Witling's journal and couldn't get it out of my head for weeks. It's very powerful, I think.

Hi! Thanks for posting that; been a while since I read it, but I wrote a paper on it when I was an undergrad--that as a metaphor for abortion.
