I see that they did not pick up Bloodlines. This doesn't make me happy because I feel like the chance we had to have a spin-off got tanked forever. I guess I was hoping that they'd pick it up and then fix it with time. Now TPTB are going to think it was the fans who sucked, instead of the writing on that ill-conceived episode. They introduced it the wrong way, they went in the wrong direction, they definitely pitched that thing to the wrong audience. Don't they get that we're *not* sitting at home watching our Show and dreaming about riding shotgun in the Impala with Sam/Dean? Don't they understand that probably most of us want to *be* Sam or Dean? We want to be that cool, that tough, that bad-ass. We're not dreaming of wearing designer gowns and dancing/screwing some mook in a tux. (well, sometimes we are but not on SpN night.)

Seasons prior, nearly every category of monster was shown to have an Alpha--it would have been so interesting to go with that idea--they could have shoehorned the Alphas into the lame kind of overused mobster family plot and made it hot. *I* would tune in to see the Alphas and their minions duking it out, as long as the writing was good and the actors were decent. I was truly surprised at how awful most of the Bloodlines cast was. I'm old, children. I'm going to need more than a hot ass to keep me invested.

It hurts to think of the possibilities we've lost--if only they'd gone that way! It would have left us some leeway to really cross over with SpN. Not necessarily the boys, maybe some minor characters we've met during the years. They wasted an opportunity to expand on the Hunter's world that we've only seen little glimpses of...*sigh*

I just can't believe by how *much* they missed that shot.

"Network remains open to another spinoff of the beloved cult series." They can try again, and there's nothing they could do that would fix all the problems with Bloodlines, it was a mess. I'm glad it didn't get picked up.

I have hopes that they'll figure us out before trying to drag us through something like that again.

I can't say that I'm sorry. Everything about Bloodlines was wrong. I would have given many other spinoff concepts a chance: Jodie Mills, Charlie and Dorothy in Oz, young Krissy and her adoptive hunter brothers and sisters, Henry Winchester and the Men and Women of Letters, hell even the Ghostfacers or Becky and the LARPers. Anything would have been better than the Bloodlines idea, and would have offered endless possibilities for growth of the SPN-verse in new and gratifying ways.

It's a mystery to me that they didn't choose to go with an MOL storyline. It's a popular period (Mad Men w/ monsters, yay!) with so much happening. Plus, they made angel-less time travel canon--take advantage of it, Show!

OMG Mad Men with Monsters! I hadn't thought of it quite that way, but you're right! And that would be awesome.

And plus: they could have used Alaina's pre-Abaddon character, because she's wonderful and gorgeous and strong and interesting.

Me too! Imagine it: in the MoL episode, she was portrayed (with some historical accuracy) as "just" kind of the Girl Friday. It would be so cool to turn that around, have her be secretly a Woman of Letters, way smarter than poor Henry (who, I will admit, also made an appealing character). They go undercover together and she--maybe she represents the Hunter line, secretly, like, knows all the weapons and fieldwork stuff, and kicks ass, while Henry worries and does research...

IDK, I'm not a TV writer, but I can easily mentally excise her conversion into a demon (or hell, maybe even keep it!) and at least vaguely perceive whole story lines!

PS Your icon HOMG.

I would love that so much! She's absolutely gorgeous and has a great Rosalind Russel vibe that granted, was a decade before but you know what I mean! And heck yeah, you need to be writing that show! :D

my icon, yes, XD I love getting that reaction. It's from a manip by edanna, which I then color-shifted and made a bit animated to look like firelight.

There are plenty - I'd love to see her just be her pre-Abbadon self, and how she came to know Henry, and some monster-lore, and the Bunker at full operating capacity.

And a theme song with "Josie" in it. XD

You put this so, so well. Everything we might have hope for, what could have been so good, but they wasted it. Now there won't be anything, because some dicks at the CW completely mis-interpreted our Show, what it is, why we love it. *sigh* I do have to say that I didn't see much salvageable with that hot mess that Bloodlines was, but we'll never know now.

I can't believe people tied to Show could even produce such an unbelievable swing-and-a-miss. I wonder who they think we are? Well, we'll see. The CW might just surprise us.

This also leaves poor Chicago in the hands of the Monster Mafia! Think this plot line will ever be addressed again?

MoL could have made a great spin off. Such a missed opportunity.

Ach, I'm pretty sure that plot line will sink like a stone. By next season it'll be "Chicago? What? Who?"

I truly prefer no spin off over Bloodlines. I wasn't going to watch it after the pilot and I truly hoped that if it gets picked up J2 won't do guest appearances on it.
I'm not sure this is the end for any spin off, though. The shows cast and crew are very aware to fans reactions, I believe that they at least get why fans didn't like it and might give it another shot. Hopefully with a better execution, the idea was just fine for my taste. It was the writing, the cliches and the casting that screamed "CW teen drama ahead".

The idea was fine to a point--I just didn't get why they went so outside canon when there was just so much to dig into and use. Then again, they might have addressed all that as time went on.

It was the writing, the cliches and the casting that screamed "CW teen drama ahead".

hokey smokes, yes!! Painfully so!

She's one of the baddest women they've had on that show--no fake toughness, they managed to avoid all the 'guy's idea of what makes a bad chick', she's just herself--brave, funny, and with a giant heart. She's like a female Dean without the horribly broken bits.

I can't say i mind. It was *so horrifically bad*, and man - the CW is churning out the cookie-cutter shows right now, and that was just one more cookie on the sheet. So boring, so samey-same, so predictable and uninteresting and, let's face it, so fucking *creamcheesewhite*. I mean - yay, that guy playing the lead, he was adorable as hell but...blondes. Everywhere, pasty blondes.
*sigh*

To me, a spin-off is an awesome character that gets to have his own life. So Sheriff Jody or the MoL or Victor if he'd survived - anything but the mess we got.

If they try again, i sure as hell hope they *pay more attention* this time.

Yes, lord, if they want to feature a character of color, than let's resurrect Victor--hell, they brought everyone else back! And pair him with Tamara, get them on the road. How cool would that be? We could base them out of an MOL bunker. Why have Dean's as the only one? Look at this--in this one comments section we've come up with better ideas that whatever brought that pile of ho-hum 2000s style CW Teen show to life. :)

YES! Holy crap, that would rock.

In a kink-meme, fandom can come up with better shite than most network thinktanks. It's sad, really.
