I think the reason we all hated Metatron so very much is because he was just such a CRAP writer. He was a hack in the worst sense of the word. He took God's dictation and somewhere along the line, began to think that it was a collaboration. I hate that I can identify with the little motherfucker, in that aspect at least. Rest assured, my friends, I will never try to kick you all out of LJ and then blackmail you into coming back while making you act out my improbable Mary-Sues. I save that stuff for posting at my sockmuppet.

Yes, exactly. He mistook his knowledge of "how stories work" for the ability to create. It's possible to have both, but he clearly did not--because angels take orders, they don't create. He's like an evil English Lit professor who decided he didn't want to write research papers anymore.

I think at some point he got contaminated by the same bizarre notion that a lot of people have--that writing just happens, it's not actual work.

Yes, yes, yes! Even if you're doing it just for a crowd of friends, like here, it's HARD work! I don't think anyone knocks something out and says, "This is a work of sheer genius!" No, we finish, and look at it and see that it needs so much more work and it never really stops needing work. Unless of course, you're Boogertron and your every idea is sheer perfection. :)

I totally agree, too. He never was a real writer, not really, he just started to get an inflated sense of his own ability. Those last few episodes, especially the finale - he genuinely horrified me. I wish Cas had killed him. :/

He's the only villain that SpN's had that totally, absolutely, freaked me out and made me hate him. Even Lucifer had his moments--Azazel had that weird ass sense of humor that I sneakily liked, Alastair as well. But this guy...I notice that few people call him Boogertron anymore...he's just too damn creepy to hang a pet name on, at least for me he is.
