Have you tried clicking on more options instead, that should let you keep the icon that you selected?

Yes!! The clicking on the more options thing works--thank goodness! I was getting really tired of just seeing my default icon.

About half the time, i can use a different icon, and then i can't. It's so annoying.
Plus, the cursor keeps defaulting to being in the subject line, so i keep typing the first few words of all my comments up there!
