There were many small things I loved about Show's comeback, but I'll wait until everyone's seen it before I go all wahoo, unless I can't wait, in which case I'll warn you but all in all, I was most pleased.

Yes! They seem so much more in tune, now, and Dean seems to be allowing Sam in, (and Castiel!), and just...not being so defensive, secretive and depressed.

I hope it lasts. And if I read anymore meta where the person tries to make a case for poor Sam being afraid (afraid!!)of abusive Dean, I'm going to have serious words. But here, in my LJ, where hardly anyone goes, lol!

OMFG. Who could even think that? Afraid *for* him, yes. But of him? Holy crap. We've seen Sam take Dean down. He *can* do it. And stand up to him, *leave* him, defy him, trick him..... Sheesh.

Right? Sam's pretty much always seemed to be physically stronger than Dean, and certainly not psychologically cowed by him. Neither does he go out of his way to try and please him, or defer to him...I can't see anything they've ever done that makes their behavior read that way.

And stand up to him, *leave* him, defy him, trick him..... Sheesh.

Yes, for crying out loud! You can make a better case for *Dean* being abused by Sam! I can't remember where I read this (tumblr?) but I read with my mouth hanging open. At no point did this person acknowledge the shit Sam did while he was an addict. They twisted Sam going to Stanford as a brave breaking free of his abuser, and then going back with Dean out of fear. Un-hunh, I read that fanfic. Didn't like it. ;D

HA! Dear gods. That's the kind of fanfic i don't even click on.

Sam and Dean are both violently physical people. Sad, but true. John taught that to them in a hundred different ways. But you can see most especially in season one, when John confronts Sam, they *both* loom, bristle up, become physically threatening. And Dean steps between them *physically* shoves them apart, then backs his dad down.

They *all* lash out in anger and fear, *both* boys take out their frustrations on each other. And if Dean has punched Sam a few times too many, then Sam has emotionally and verbally 'punched' Dean.

So - neither of them are healthy or deal with things in a good way, but they are certainly not 'victim' and 'abuser'.

I love how you just get this thing with them--that John raised them harshly, but wasn't an abusive evil fuck, that the boys are boys and screwed up but until heaven and hell got into it, they were coping best as could be expected.

EXACTLY. I mean - Heaven and Hell and the angels and all really screwed them over, they've been controlled by outside sources since they were *kids*, and before, but they were...really actually okay, before that.

As okay as they could be.
