Did I tell you my family is dragging me to California in two weeks? Did I tell you I'm a Dean Winchester flyer?

This whole vacation thing is unsettling me. If by unsettle we mean hiding in the bathroom and having panic attacks. I'm spending as much time as I can preparing for this. Sadly, my doctor firmly believes in not prescribing anything to make me happy. Unless of course, I want to take an anti-anxiety med full time--no thanks, been there, done that, was absolutely not worth it. I swear, that man acts like I'm a junkie just waiting to happen.

We're going to be there for my beloved niece as she graduates. It's going to be like having our very own family therapist. Or not, as she has explained to me many times, but la! She is wrong. :D

We'll be in San Jose, San Francisco, and then a few days in Oregon, Corvallis, actually, and then a few days in Seattle, and then home again, where I can pull the covers over my head and bite the hand off of anyone who tries to intrude.

I *hate* traveling. But, this should soften me up really good for the con in September--lucky roommates. . :)

Awwwwww, bb. I know *exactly* how you feel, re: flying. It sucks so bad. I get sick, rather than really freaked (but i still hate it) and so, yes - not fun at *all*. If your doc won't give you anything even at least mild and temporary, how do you react to Benedryl or cold meds? Something that puts you out? Take that just before you board and sleep the whole way!

*hugs*

And congratulations to your niece! That's awesome. Enjoy your trip, bb - you get to see family *and* some beautiful scenery. You can do it!!

This kid should never doubt that I love her, that's for sure.

I'm going to try a sleep-aid my kid recommended tonight--something to look forward to, wooo! :D I hope it works because unconscious is the best way to go, lol!

Good luck!

I know, right? Fucking perfect! Because on a floating hotel you can get the fuck away from horrible, fat, sweaty guys who try to hog the arm rests AND AND AND, fresh air! Wind! The ocean which, while it has it's own horrifying Kraken-like monsters waiting to eat you alive, is beautiful.

There is nothing beautiful about a jet-propelled tube of aluminum.

What!?! When? It is a horribly long flight but San Francisco is a pretty nice city. I didn't know your neice went to school out here. Where are you gonna go? What are you gonna see? Remember to bring layers to wear because it can get chilly in SF at night. You don't want to be one of those tourists we make fun of because they have to buy Alcatraz polar fleeces.

We're leaving on the 18th of June, arriving where exactly I have no idea because I won't let anyone talk to me about it. The kid's going to school in San Jose--the nerve of her to have left me . :(

Also, what we're doing or seeing--don't know, won't let anyone talk to me about it.

Good looking out on the layers thing--anything else I should know so no one points at me and laughs their asses off? Which they're going to do the minute I start speaking anyway. "Yo, watha fuck isis thing, here? It cos' whaaaa? Fuckin' hell no!" (I might have a slight Jersey accent)

Except for Mr. R, who has that newscaster no-accent. Until he gets really tired or slightly buzzed, then he sounds like the southern boy he sort of is. :D

Look, I'm typing and I'm still babbling from nerves.

Californians make fun of everyone's accent because they actually believe they don't have an accent. I wish I had a dollar for every time someone has asked me "where are you from" in that really slow, elongated vowel, California way. They also have no sense of geography. They think everything past the mountains is the east coast. Like Chicago, Boston and New York are within walking distance of each other.

Oh one more tip, when you buy something, they don't give you a bag. You have to either bring your own or buy one for ten cents. Apparently plastic shopping bags kept getting tossed in the bay and there is now a huge island of them floating around off the coast.

I know you are going to be super busy but if you find yourself with free time and a hankering for some coffee give me a call. I would love to meet the fabulous Miss Rose in person.

SO he won't give you like a xanax to fly there and a xanax to fly back?? that's crazy :-( LOTS of people have flying anxiety, including Mike. He gets two or three pills just to get him there and back home and that's it. I'm so sorry *kicks your doctor*

It will be lovely to see here, though, and that whole area!!!!

I can't wait to be your roommmate!!!! :-DDDDD

I just have travel anxiety in general. Remember my meltdown about the con? And that's in NEW JERSEY. A whole two hours from where I live. Jeez, I'm really special. :D :D :D

I used to love to fly. But the airlines have made it a progressively torturous and unnecessarily punitive experience. I hate it now. Plus, my body at 25 did not have the difficulties with small spaces and cabin pressure my body now has. Sucks.

But! There will be merriment and fun and proud moments on the ground! Worth the going, indeed. Safe journey, roxy, and safe return. Fun in the middle!

I will keep telling myself that--I will convince myself that I LOVE going places I've never been before, and meeting total strangers! Yes! So much yes....

I'm planning on being unconscious most of the trip--here's looking at you, Advil PM! ;D

I haven't flown since 1985. Landed in Oakland, CA. right over the bay. I just about crapped myself. I will fly again, only if there is no other way to go. Amtrak and rental cars are my friends. :)

omgosh, yes, land travel is the way to go. I took the train from Pennsylvania to Oregon once, many, many years ago and it was wonderful.

Sweetie, load up your tablet, or laptop, with lots and lots of good stories to read during the trip. believe me, it makes the time fly and it takes you out of your head and worrying about the flight. When Lee and I still had the money for such things it's what I always did.

And, just think, you get to honor your niece at the end by just toughing it out along the way. :)

*hugs you hard*

My poor BB! I've never flown, but the idea scares the crap outta me. I like my feet firmly on the ground (unless it's a roller coaster... lol). Really puts a damper on ideas of traveling though. :( But maybe Mr. R. can come up with a way to distract you on the flight. ;)

Does sound like you guys have a fun trip planned. Hope you enjoy it. :D

Woot! Grats to the niece. :)

You could try another doctor. In England I used to take a product called Kalms when I was going through a stressful time (like when I was in a play) and I used to find them really helpful. I think they may be available in the US. They're not fast acting though. They have an accumulative affect over a couple of weeks, so if you can start taking them for at least a few days before you're due to fly - or, since you're already stressing out, now - that would be good. Active ingredents are valerain and gentian roots.

:(

I would have to start main-lining them now, I have a little over a week to go.

I'll just handle it the way I always handle stressful situations, cry, whine, bitch, moan, hang all over Mr. R and hyperventilate a bit.

I know how you feel, hon, cause I don't like to travel, either.

There's a natural product called Rescue Remedy that's really good for anxiety, you might want to give that a try. It works fast, and there's no side effects.

Congrats to your niece! And I hope you will have some enjoyable times during your trip. :)

I'm going to try. Stiff upper lip, and all that. If not, the Fam better be prepared to carry me like a cat everywhere.
