How many times have you been stopped by the police--without doing anything to give them a reason to stop you, like speeding, or weaving all over the road, or throwing stuff out the window?

Never. I've been pulled over for a (real) busted tail light, and once I was pulled over for making an illegal turn with a police car directly behind me (I was in downtown Boston, late for an appointment, horribly lost lost in a construction zone and didn't see the "no left turn" sign among all the other fifty thousand construction-related signs; he thought it was hilarious and only gave me a warning). But I've never been pulled over without a reason, and I've FAILED to be pulled over a couple of times when there WAS a pretty good reason.

Hunh! You must look very trustworthy. :)

My dealing with police have been 50/50--I was wondering if my flist had the same experience, what with all the horrible things that have been going on lately.

I think it's that I look like a white soccer mom, honestly, which makes me feel helplessly furious in ways I can't articulate. The stuff I'm seeing and reading about the past few years with regard to police brutality and racism is repulsive and sickening - but even more repulsive and sickening is the certainty that it's been going on all along, but we've now reached the point as a tech society that we get it on video more often than we ever could before. All of this makes me feel like I'm drenched in something disgusting.

Yes, I feel like the rest of America is finally getting that we haven't been making it up all these years. I feel like we're on the cusp of something big--hopefully, something positive will come out of all this.
