Without David Bowie, there never would have been a Miss Roxy Rose. I would have probably kept on walking by myself, being quiet me. But I got introduced to his music, which led to learning all about that other world next door, and what a different world it was. What a lot of fun it was. I grew a whole new me, who felt more like the real me--I was much more comfortable in my skin and so surprised how many people wanted to see the world like I did. The only other time I felt like that was falling into LJ and fanfic--that feeling like finding home. Rest in peace, sir--you changed the world.

Isn't that true, and lovely. He showed the weird kids (of which I was one) that weird is okay and awesome and creative. He laid a path for the gay, bi and trans kids. And he expanded the world.

He really did. Unless you lived it, there's no way to explain what a massive influence he was! I think just by existing, he saved a lot of kids.

It breaks my heart, to think of him not here anymore, no more music, no more of that amazing smile.... I grew up hearing his music, seeing his amazing style, crushing and loving and singing and dancing to his talent....

Damn, Miss Rose.

*HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGS*

I've been crying on and off all day, just in disbelief. I was a teen when he first hit the scene and that was it for me--loved him ever since.

He was incredibly influential in my life too, in so many ways. Hard to believe he's gone.

I have to admit that while I loved Bowie's music, I never really considered myself a fan. I wasn't influenced by him as other's were. But reading all tributes to him last night and today, I keep tearing up. I think there are some people you just think will be around forever and he was definitely one.

I know! I lived and breathed Bowie once upon a time, and felt like he'd always be there.

I cried yesterday and I cried today when it was still true. Bowie (and Reed) helped me through the darkest places of my life. It's heartbreaking that there will be no more Bowie in this world, but at least Fate loved us enough to put us here at the same time. Imagine living in the 1500s or BCE or even the future where you know this amazing artist once existed but never got even a 100th of the shine of watching him live. Changes. What an amazing creature. To think he and I were the same species!

Oh man, that is so very true!! We were the same re Bowie and Reed. And being in the same time as him--Bowie and the whole era was incredible! I finally felt like not-a-freak, like it was okay to be who I was. This *amazing* person making it happen...watching him live, just being transported!!

What an amazing creature. To think he and I were the same species!

Yes girl!

In a world where music stars pee on Mayan ruins and wear dresses that would fit into an TicTac box and glorify gun violence, David Bowie was the epitome of class. He was an musical and artistic genius, but above all, he was a gentlemen. He wasn't a person who "thought outside of the box" because for him, the box never existed.

He was my hero.

My heart is broken.
