How's it going? Haven't been here for a couple of days. Went to the shore. Or down the shore, however people who like the place say it. I hate the fucking beach. I hate the sand, the moisture, the way everything stays wet all the damn time, I hate the smell of the sea...in fact, the only time I like the ocean is in fanfic or moonlight walks, just me and him, all alone, and even then they better be short and end in sex. Definitely NOT on the beach.

I stayed in our hotel room. (don't even get me started about the hotel--fucking Overlook Hotel of the Sea) and read. I enjoyed some excellent fanfic, read Cri de Cœur, which I enjoyed very much, started Home Is Where You are, and I'm enjoying that too.

There was a BBQ fest setting up while we were there, and Mr R loves his ribs, so we wandered around. Bought peach-flavored bbq sauce, which sounds gross, but it's very tasty. I think it'll go great on chicken and salmon. Looking forward to him making me some. ;D

The reason we went to the shore was my niece's desire to tan and get sandy. It was great to have her home, but we saw very little of her. I guess that's what happens when your children are grown and have sig others. There were some deeply hurt feelings (all mine) because instead of staying with us, they stayed in Philly. Because, it turned out, she didn't want to bother us, or have her SO get in "our way". (giant air quotes) My response was that we were willing to have him there because we loved her, and if he "got in my way" there was a room upstairs with a door on it, and he could take his ass "Up there" and "shut the motherfuckin' door behind him." which I said with love. He's a very nice guy, really, and no trouble at all. We fixed that ridikilisness and all is good now. But my friends, it was a draining, anxiety-ridden couple of days for me, and I felt like I took some huge steps backwards, me-wise. Still, saw my baby, had some good days, and now I'm gonna sleep the sleep of the just.

Aw, bb. I'm sorry your 'holiday' wasn't nice. *smishes you* Sometimes, it's so hard when your 'kid' is suddenly a grown-up with all kinds of stuff going on that you just...don't have much input into.

I do have to say, though, you're nuts for not liking the beach. :) (I could live on the beach. Will live on the beach if i ever win the lottery. Oh yes.)

*hugs you tight*
*snuggles you*

Yeah...I just couldn't believe that she thought we'd think it was an inconvenience! Sometimes, I swear, she confuses us with sitcom families or something.

LOL! I *know* Most people side-eye me like I confessed to eating roasted baby kittens. Beach isn't just something you like in NJ, it's a religion! You'd be so happy here. :D

"fucking Overlook Hotel of the Sea"
Hahaa...
I fucking hate the beach too. I can't even relax when people in books/fic are at the beach. Grimace the whole time.

*many hugs*

fucking Overlook Hotel of the Sea

I just laughed so hard at this... I'm not going to ask where you stayed, but it's put a pretty spectacularly weird picture in my head. I assume there were no hedge mazes, considering hedges don't grow so well by the sea, at least not where I go.

Oh, it would have grown a maze if it could have, just out of hateful spite! ;D

Wait, let me get this straight... you went to the beach for your niece but she didn't come with? In any case it sounds like a very painful miscommunication. *hugs* So glad you were able to talk things out in the end. Hope you recover from that having taken a step forward too. There is always something to learn and gain from such situations. More even, than the happy times.*hugs again*

Oh, no, no!! I'm so sorry! I reread that and it really isn't clear, oy! And I call myself a writer, lol!

No, we all stayed together at the hotel when we went to the beach!

I meant that instead of coming to stay at home, she stayed at an air B&B. *That* hurt my feelings because I thought she didn't want to stay with us. Instead, she was trying to spare us. It's rough because we usually only see her at Christmas, and I miss her too much. She's on one side of the country and we're on the other, so it's hard, and I'm terrible at traveling. But yeah, hopefully we both learned something--me to speak up sooner, and her to get that there's always a place at home! :)

Oh, that's good at least!

I do that a lot - assume someone knows something, and not say enough, and end up getting hurt by it :P Def. something I need to work on too.

YES! It's really awful. Things did settle out well, but oy...still haven't napped, and I owe my artist a reply to her e-mail and, and...wah.

Sorry your holiday was not all you wanted it to be. I do not like the beach or the ocean or large bodies of water at all. At least you got some reading time in. :D Never a bad thing. The BBQ sounded good.

Glad you got things straightened out with the niece too. Miscommunications & misunderstandings are never fun, especially between family.

*lots of hugs and love* ♥

Ach, my niece! It was a good thing to get that little bit cleared up--we'll talk again this week, I'm sure. She's a great kid--I was just confused as to why she thought it would be a burden to have her here.

*HUGGLES* and much love! ♥

LOL, totally.

Yes, peach BBQ! I like any kind of sauce with peach or mango in it. And Peach salsa.

Bummer that they didn't want to stay with you guys.

Peach bbq sauce is *genius*!!

It was getting our signals crossed, I guess. When they told us they were staying at a B&B instead of at home, I thought it was something they wanted to do. Turns out, they just didn't want to be a *burden*. WTF? Family is family, you're *supposed* to be a burden, to paraphrase a certain old, ghost-hunting coot. I think we got it straight now. :D

Oh good. At least you talked it out. I remember when my boyfriend and I first came to visit my parents and he did not want to stay at their house but I was like, No. They *want* us to stay with them! They want to be able to show their hospitality! Plus you get to spend way more time hanging out when you don't have to drive back.

Was this the first time you've met the boyfriend?

I like the ocean, but as the whitest girl on the planet, I hate the sun, so I'm the idiot you see on the beach completely covered head to toe looking for shade.

No, no, we met him before, and he's a nice guy, which is why it puzzled me that she decided it would be some kind of burden to us to have him around.

You know...I've always wondered why white folks are willing to burn like that. I remember years ago when the Fam went to Disney and we all got sunburns (for the first time in our lives) and it took us a while to figure out why our skin was on FIRE. And then we were horrified when it PEELED RIGHT OFF OUR BODIES!!!

Who would do that for fun???????? The only sensible people on the beach *are* the ones covered from head to toe looking for shade!

When I was a kid, I heard that skin had 7 layers and thought we only had 7 layers of skin. I would panic if I got burnt and peeled. I had visions of being down to muscle by the time I was in jr. high. I perhaps was not the brightest kid.

I also abhor the beach and all things sunny (and outdoorsy, if I'm being honest), but I do love your tales, Lady.

Also, watching early season boys on TNT, which of course made me miss you!!!!

Ah, those early seasons! They look like babies to me, now!

Outdoorsy things are to be avoided at all cost - unless they involve food. ;D
