That actually sounds right. If I remember correctly, weren't all the family members dressed like robin's or something. Something about being a trapeze troup thing. :/ Yeah, sounds right to me!!
They were the Fabulous Flying Graysons! =D I'm not 100% certain about the costume colors, as what I saw was all black and white (Pre-Cataclysm, or whatever DC calls its massive reboot) from the 30s ^__^ but yeah.
I'm not real well-versed in the bat stuff but I believe it was his mother's nickname for him. He was born in the spring, her little robin... something like that.
Yeah, "flew in just like a Robin" to save his falling brother, according to Batman Forever (not that that's gospel or anything), but an essay I read on Robin was helpful in a lot of ways and said that Dick's mom nicknamed him Robin for flight reasons.
And for some reason this? Batman's Robin, I mean. made me giggle. I'm really tired... And hey! This icon is sort of relevant to a comment for once!
Did you watch House? What was with the guy and the cows and his mom? It was Warren, from Buffy, making it the second member of the Trio to be on House. And how slashy was the ending scene? Half the House/Wilson fics I've read have begun like that.
Ack, you missed it?! Actually, it really wasn't that good except for Warren and the last scene.
That's funny, you miss House and over the weekend I taped the wrong channel so I missed The Batman (which odds are was a repeat anyway). This is not a good trend.
And yeah, I love my Dick icon. It's kinda blurry because the picture was small, but that's okay. Just looking at the drawing in the book, I knew I had to do something with it. There are also nice drawings of Dick's exposed crotch area (bcause apparently he can't stand/flip/fight without spreading his thighs), and one where the artist actually gave him a bulge, and if I could do animated icons, I'd flip between "Dick's ass," "Dick's crotch/groin," and "Dick's bulge." Because Dick begs for it with his body language.
Originally, Batman was named Birdman and wore a domino mask. I think I remember that one of the two creators suggested renaming him to 'Batman' and giving him the cowl instead. Batman also started off armed with a gun and more often than not left his enemies dead.
Because the comic publisher that Batman started off in felt that the Batman character was too violent, the creators were asked to tone it down and to throw in a young sidekick for people to relate to. The name was chosen to reflect in parts, the flying animal motif, the hints to Batman's original name, and reference Robin Hood (just look at the costume!) hehe :)
As for the in comic/story reason why Robin is Robin...that I don't know too much about.
Just some of the useless trivia knowledge stuck in my brain that actually had some use for once, lol. I think I learned that when I was like, 12 or so from a combo of Trivia Persuit and Bazooka Joe bubble gum wrappers. Hell, I'm surprised I remembered that much of it. Just glad that you found it useful *beams*

Robin's name
