So, I went over to vote in the SV awards, and I didn't vote for myself because...I don't know. So I voted for my fav authors and artists and boy, it was really hard. There are so many people whose work I *love*. I have to say that I think it's fair that more new people were chosen. It's tough competing against folks who aren't in the fandom, and haven't
been for a while. True, they wrote incredible amazing stories, and they're hard to top, but I wonder what winning an award would mean to them?

Sometimes, I get annoyed with endless reccing of long out of fandom writers, but I guess if I'm completely honest, (and i try) it's more jealousy on my part, of a level of writing I know I'll never achieve in this lifetime. Or several of them. Okay, yes, whining but ya'll know it's my second biggest hobby. Anyhoo, go vote! Let your favorite writer know that you appreciate the work that goes into entertaining you!

*stands up* Hello, my name is Shannon, and I also get jealous of the endless reccing of fics and authors past that I will never come close to being able to write on the same level as. *sits back down* Thank you.

*passes you tissues* If I could, I buy you some whiskey, wine, or beer...your choice. I understand and feel the same way.

*Regress a bit: I just wanna be like the other cool kids in fandom!*

I've been trying to ignore the awards. I think they were gone about the wrong way, and really -- how the hell am I supposed to win against the person I'm up against? I agree. I think stories written in at *most* the last three years should have been the only ones allowed. It's just going to upset the active authors when the old ones win. *sniffle*

Where are the SV awards? I'm curious to check them out. I might find something I'll enjoy, for one thing; for another, I'm strangely fascinated. There was an awards event in the second or third year of SV fandom, which was the most egalitarian award design I'd ever heard of; people didn't vote by pushing a button, they voted through discussion. So all the nominees could be discussed and the authors could get plenty of love. I liked the idea -- because once you've reached a certain level, it's nearly impossible to choose "best." Much easier to say, "This group was really, really good." (Also, I love discussion, and was looking forward to reading what people had to say.)

The people holding the event were nearly run out of town on a rail, and the event was boycotted. Emotionally speaking, I withdrew from fandom after that, and never really went back.

Writing in this fandom has always been pretty intimidating for me just because there has always been such amazing writers in it. I've always been over in my little corner of the web just writing my stories, mostly for myself.

It still shocks the heck out of me that any one else likes or reads them. I'm still afraid, in my heart of hearts, that they just aren't good enough. I know that's my own insecurities talking but, what can you do?

*hugs*

I suppose it is a little unfair to have the classic fics nominated because I can see how a lot of the time people will just automatically recognise that fic as an acknowledged classic that they've enjoyed, and may not have caught up on the newer stuff. Next years awards should be more straightforward as it'll just be work from the past year

I am rather optimistically hoping that winning the WIP category might encourage some authors to finish their fic though! I don't say anything obviously, because it's not my place to come across as all demanding with something like fanfic written as a gift, but it kills me the number of fic that Jenn starts and then abandons. I loved hooker Clark *sniffs* For months I was checking her LJ with hopes that today would have an update, and then she would start all these new WIPs for Stargate :/ Oh well...

honestly, if i see the numbers of *new* authors, and old ones, I think, the awards turned out fairly awesome :)

sure, there are people like seperis, Pru, and a few long left authors, that I rec regularly (or irregularly, because I guess, I am one of the 5% of readers, who havenet been enchanted by Pru's Kon-el series, which i cannot even remember the name..), but then, it wasnt me, who nominated them. trust me, I nominated a hell lot *new* folks *g* .......for example, like you *g*.

otherwise, when i look through the list, i just see *new* folks.

also, i think, you are just underestimating yourself. as someone, who has recced your fics as often as the classics, i feel hurt by you saying, your level of writing is not up to par with any of those "long out of fandom" writers. you are insulting my taste as a reader. even if i know, you dont mean it, it still hurts.

The "new" authors are rocking so hard. I don't know how new some of them are because I haven't even been in fandom a year yet, but people like you and danceswithgary and supercaptain182, and more people have sucked me in. It's good that SV is still turning out good writers (especially Clex writers, seeing as how it is non-existent in canon nowadays) because the fandom itself is what makes watching shows exciting. Makes us feel like part of the process and the fans are what keep fandoms alive. Even "dead" fandoms like Buffy, Angel, etc. are still churning out fics, and the great thing about SV is that even when the show ends, the fandom won't because there are still the memories of the show as well as the comics that won't end to draw from...hence my Future!Clex icon
