As warned, my baby story.
First bits will come quickly, they're already written--I'm struggling with the rest(my surprise!)It's fun though...Just a lot of schmoop.I think. Sometimes what *I* think is schmoopy,I've been told, makes the Baby Cheeses cry.
Like ta see it?
Here it is!
The plane was crowded. And warm, the body heat of too many people completely defeating the air conditioning. He’d thought it might be a little cool in the plane, but it was quite the opposite. How people could stand to travel like this, packed in a shabby confined space like cattle was beyond him. It was an eye-opening experience certainly, an experience that reminded him of the advantages his life afforded him; advantages that almost balanced the problems it brought with it.
He stretched as best he could in the cramped seats and waited for the steward to make his way up the aisle with the beverage cart. The young man stopped and smiled at him. “ Is there anything you’d like?” There was a definite hint of interest in his eyes. Um. Hazel eyes…
“ Ah, water if you have it.” Lex responded and felt his ears warm and dropped his eyes. He wasn’t away from the guy for a whole day yet and he was …well, pining was such a Victorian word…
The steward smiled a bit wider and handed him a poly bottle of spring water. Lex looked at it dubiously, squeezing the bottle a bit, but thanked him with a smile in return.
“So, ah….” The steward hesitated a bit.
“Alex.”
“So Alex, are you on spring break?” he asked as he handed Lex’s seatmate a soda. Lex replied with a smile. “Yes, I am on break.”
It might not be the literal truth, but it was certainly close. The steward winked at him. “Enjoy your break!” and moved off down the aisle. Lex pulled the edges of the knit cap he was wearing down a bit further and relaxed against the seat.
In the cap, board shorts and band tee, he really looked like any one of the thousands of kids traveling home from school for the holidays. He ‘d never dressed like this ever, couldn’t look less like Lex Luthor, and if he was lucky, he’d stay below the radar for as long as necessary. An hour more of this flight from hell and he’d be in a safe place. He sighed, closed his eyes and hoped he’d be able to get some sleep.
*******
Lex pulled a well-used jean jacket and a beat up old backpack from the overhead, shrugging into the jacket while he waited for the crowd in the aisle to thin. The flight had been every bit as bad as he feared it would be, and what sleep he’d managed to get did nothing to relax him. He was tired and cranky and he felt desperate to get out of the flying cracker box. He pulled the collar of the jacket around his throat and breathed in deeply. It was one he borrowed from Clark, and it smelled…good. A little like cinnamon, warm, comforting. Like Clark. He hoped no one noticed him sniffing the jacket, but right now, he really could use a little comfort.
