I don't like Lana.
I'm not too crazy about Pete either, except in fic.

Most of the people on my flist don't care for Lana. And, despite a few eps where we got a glimpse of how awesome Lana could be if the writers weren't such chowderheads, I've never liked her either.

However, unlike the person who started this clusterfuck, I understand the distinction between the character of Lana Lang and the actress who plays her. And I don't think that referring to a *totally fictional character* as "squirrel-face" or "hamster" makes me eligible for membership in the KKK.

It would be really nice if certain people could refrain from hurling insults at everyone who happens to disagree with them.

honestly, first I disliked her because she was there. I'll admit all I wanted to see was Clark and Lex. Then, the actress underwhelmed me with her ability to wring any juice totally from any scene she was in. Then, they decided she wasn't cool enough, and suddenly she was super Lana, who could do anything. It wasn't until this season that she's improved a lot in acting and rarely makes THE HAMSTER FACE, which is why I call her that.

When the show first started, I was expecting Lana to be like the Lana Lang I remembered from the comics -- Clark's one-time high school crush, who he loved from afar and who never gave him the time of day. I certainly never expected her to take over the damn show! A lot of my resentment of her probably stems from that.

Yeah, I think the less you know about Smallville canon, the happier you'd be with the characters on the show. I think most of the problem lies in the fact that KK doesn't project likability. If she'd been a warmer character, I doubt people would resent her as much as they do.

I feel like I want to tell the people who are posting on this where this started, and in fact, a Lana fan very recently incited the vicious harassment of another fan based on her questioning how the writers/producers have dealt with Lana's ancestry. In a discussion about CHLOE'S ancestry. If people are on the defensive, there's a reason.

But even addressing them means you get to have your words picked apart and potentially get called a cocksucker or a cunt. I'm not particularly interested in "intellectual" discussion that involve this kind of behavior. So I completely agree that we could discuss this without hurling insults and making well written veiled attacks at other people.

I didn't know that's where it all started. Thanks for enlightening me!

However, I think this has all reached a point that's beyond ridiculous. We live in a world that's facing some well-nigh *dire* problems, and here we are playing the "how many angels can dance on the head of a pin?" game with a character from a freakin' TV show.

Some people need to, IMHO, stop acting like such insufferably self-righteous psuedo-intellectuals and get a life.
