Back.
Back to the vale of hell that is Tarjay, back to happy little Retail Land, ready to serve the customers with a smile on my mug and a dance in my step, and god help the little fuckers if they piss me off.
It's been a lovely vacation,I must say.I'll miss staying up till the ass-crack of dawn though, and the leisurely, write- read- draw schedule I've been operating on.
So! Tad--Dah, I shall drop some fic on you, and then to bed, with visions of something not to good in my head! Muuuh-waaaaa! Kisses!
“And sending me out to Small-god damn-ville, Kansas is going to help how?” Lex tried to reign in his temper, and remember that his dad was only trying to help, but Smallville? What the hell was in Smallville? And a fertilizer factory? He’s sending me to run a place that makes…shit?
“Dad, I’ve been doing great lately, and I’m going to keep doing great, and frankly…this stuff…it can’t hurt me. We both know that. Why try to pretend that fact doesn’t exist?” Lex exhaled deeply. “I can’t get hooked on anything—you know I’ve changed since that day, the meteors, you know something in them made my body alter, besides the obvious. I mean beyond an occasional cold, I don’t get sick—I heal too fast—“He laughed, “Not that that’s a problem.” He flexed the fingers that’d been broken.
“Lex, I know everything you’re telling me. I know it very well. But this mutation, beneficial as it seems to have been to you, can’t prevent death from an overdose and I’m afraid that the manner in which you’ve been living… well, death seems more and more a likely outcome.” He came to put his hands on Lex’s shoulders and spoke softly. “ I’m going to prevent that. I need to prevent that. I’ve been distant, that’s true, but I want to change that. I’d like us to have a relationship again.” He lifted his eyes to Lex’s, surprising the young man with the emotion he could see there.
“This episode scared me Lex. I’ve never seen you so close…” He shuddered slightly, and went on, “Well, I hope that you’ll let me give you the help you need.” He squeezed Lex’s shoulders and moved away again.
“ I feel it would be best for you to get out of Metropolis. Away from your old –friends, and away from temptations, frankly. You’ll like Smallville; it’s changed since you were there last. And while I know it doesn’t have the happiest of memories for you…"
Lex flared up, “Gosh, Dad, do you really think so?” his hand swept across his bare scalp in an automatic reflex. “Let’s stop playing. I know what this is all about! You don’t have any faith in me! You’ve never had any faith me! It’s just another way for you to sweep me under the rug, to send me away.”
His father shook his head, “No, Lex, I’m not sending you away—I’m sending you to something, something that you need, a goal--a purpose, son. And I do have faith, you know. It’s just that it’s going to be easier to have faith when you’re in Smallville.” He smiled, and Lex observed there was a lot less doting father in that smile and a lot more Lionel.
“I’ve got staff in place, opening the castle now, and by the time you get there it should be quite livable again. The plant manager is preparing to hand the reigns over to you and I think everything should transition smoothly.”
Lex nodded as though he were in deep thought-- transition my ass-- and calculated how quickly he could get back to Metropolis from Bumfuck.
“And by the way, Lex. Bruce is going with you. He kindly cleared his schedule so that he could spend the summer with you, isn’t that nice?” He dad grinned in delight.
He had to admit, his dad had been nothing but caring and considerate the whole time Lex was recovering from his injuries, but Lionel was still Lionel, and being a prick ran in his blood. He could tell how much his dad enjoyed imparting that bit of information. In an odd way Lex found it comforting…a bit of familiarity in the skewed world he’d been living in lately.
God—Smallville…Bruce….
His dad smiled warmly at him.
Prick.
