2/10/09 12:06 am (UTC)There was a discussion at the Rose manse about that phrase. I'm the only one who uses it, and everyone swore I made it up!

2/10/09 05:07 am (UTC)For example:
#1 "When did you hear that? She'd have told me first!"
# 2 "Calm down; she just found out she was pregnant a little bit ago."
A little bit ago = a little while ago.
We also say, "A long while ago," in Texas, and I know that is common all over.
For example: "Oh dear, I met him, a long while ago, too far to count." Very common expression in my world, matching "a long while ago" and "too far to count."

2/10/09 03:15 pm (UTC)I don't even know why he suddenly seemed to think it was odd I say a little bit ago, I've been saying it forever. But when he mentioned it, I did notice that I was alone using it. I think you're right though, I heard it from someone on TV or maybe read it and it just felt comfortable to use. :)

2/10/09 06:30 am (UTC)When you stop to really think about it, it does sound slightly odd, but that's true of a lot of phrases.
