Who knows what Devil Dogs are? And if you do, what area of the country are you, please? You'd think I could find that easily but no...*pout*

That's what we called very dark chocolate cake filled with swirls of layered cream, back in New York! They're not covered in chocolate like a ho-ho, but are more cake-like in nature.

Hmm. I wonder if one can major in chocolate at university.

I know of two uses of the term. One, is a nickname given to US Marines. Two, is a sugary sweet snack. Here is a link to follow: http://www.drakesdevildogs.com/

They were a staple of my New England upbringing. I haven't seen them since I left Rhode Island.

They are Marines!
:)

Heeee. Also, something ding-dong/ho ho like, but i've never had one. Little Debbie sells 'Devil Creams', which i fondly call Satan Creams....

This link, all about Devil Dogs, says what states they were sold in. :)

Really, aren't those two things one in the same?

Yeah, we had them in Jersey, of course, but I wondered where else in the country they were sold. I was going to use Ho-Hos 'causse really, how is food called Ho-Ho not funny as hell, but then I liked Devil Dogs for the story better and really, i should be in bed instead of babbling all over the interwebs...*hug*

Thanks!!!

I don't think they are. I mean, I could be wrong, but I've spent a lot of time in the midwest, and I never saw them there. I'm pretty sure they are exclusive to the northeastern seaboard. They are pretty dry and gross, actually, and you know how New Englanders like to torture themselves.

Ha!

Yeah, that's the article I should have read closer, damn. it's right there. I wanted to have Dean reference a snack food, and that Devil Dog would have been perfect--but not if they couldn't have got them easily as yooung whippersnappers. Grown-ups don;t get that hooked on a snack like that, I'm thinking.

What the eff. Maybe I'll go with them anyway, right?

Am I making sense? I feel like my brains are packed with cotton. I'm all zombified from tired but too stupid ot go to bed. lol!

This west coast kitten has never heard of them but from the links they look yummy.

*has read through some of your comments to see what the reference is for*

This is Dean you're talking about. Of course he'd get hooked on a snack food. My Dean Muse is almost insulted that you didn't think he would.

Of course you're making sense!
And dude - so easy. Every time they went east and hit Devil Dog states, Dean was in hot pursuit of them. And would bitch about Florida and Cali and Missouri and Colorado not having them. Endlessly. To Sam, who just *did not care*, and omg, Susi Q's are *exactly the same*, Dean, Jesus!

See?

Unless you want me to make something up! Which... just say the word! :D

Thank you! I saw it posted today and had to load it up as soon as I saved it.

It sounds like you might be. Write the story the way you want it. Isn't that what you've told me to do with the epic?

you are thinking less Sugary Cake and Frosted Filling and more Hell Hound I suspect. You see, Hell Hounds have no fluffy creme filling. I'm pretty sure....

NO, NO!
I am almost certain--fluffy creme filling+the fires of hell=greasy spots of non-ambulatory hounds, therefore--no creme fluff!

though if Sam had been thinking, instead of trying to break Dean's deal, he should have been trying to make the Hell Hounds into Devil Dogs. *nods*

Ah hah! But some people say that hell is cold. In which case hell hounds stuffed with creme would be very stiff! And probably constipated. Which would make them cranky!

And I think we can all agree that cranky is pretty tightly associated with hell hounds.

In any case, I completely agree that Sam should have used this against the hell hounds to save Dean. *tsk!* He just wasn't thinking!

Growing up in New Hampshire, Devil Dogs were my third favorite snack, after Ring Dings and Hostess cupcakes. Their one failure was that they were not frosted, however, this made them especially good if frozen before eating. Frosting tends to flake off after freezing.

Ah the memories!

Oh, and Swiss rolls were great too, more creamy filling and granulated sugar dusted on the outside.

I used to live in the Ohio River Valley (Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana), and I'd never heard of Devil Dogs until I moved to Boston. They're everywhere around here. But Tabaqui had the perfect solution, and that would so be Dean's attitude, IMO.
