Still thinking about it. At first I was upset and may have abused my ancient TV set, but after niece and friend and I discussed it, I had to step back and think. The best way to watch Show? With someone who loves it madly. I wanted to have every single question resolved but have to live with the fact that I might not ever get some questions answered...but that's okay. :)

I've been sort of retrospectively watching it with everyone on my flist who has posted positive reviews and love. I left the ep feeling disappointed, and other people's happiness with it has helped me feel better about it.

Mind you, I still want those answers, too, and somehow Kripke's handwaving, via Chuck, of the difficulties of writing an ending and making the pieces fit and satisfying the fans was distinctly Joss manqué and not actually the Jossiness he was aiming for and therefore fairly lame and annoying and condescending.

But Dean still loves Sam, and Sam still loves Dean, and if it was utter retconning fanservice to show them carving their initials into the Impala, and utter crap to say that Dean left a plastic toy soldier in an ashtray of a completely totalled car, it still kind of made me smile, you know?

Yeah, mixed feelings. Definitely.

I was torn up at first and really angry but rewatching it, talking about it and reading other folks reaction has helped a lot.

I kind of ended up loving that, because that's just so...darling. And sure, we non-paid, amateur and on the whole disrespected fanwriters would have been handed our hats and shown the door for that by our readers but I loved it. And don't get me started on the car. Even the Show doesn't know what happened to the car!

I promise to stop editing this comment now that I've got it in the right place.

I was actually lying there last night thinking about Dean bashing up the Impala at the beginning of S2, there in Bobby's wrecking yard. I know I'm way too literal in my thinking sometimes, but how the fuck many 1967 Impalas are in wrecking yards nationwide to supply all those body parts AGAIN?

Then I got to thinking about the old conundrum of George Washington's apocryphal hatchet--the one he could not tell a lie about chopping down the cherry tree with, you know? It lived a long and useful life before it went into the museum, and during that time, the ash handle had to be replaced, and finally the axe-head was honed down to the point where it, too needed to be replaced. But it's in the museum as Washington's hatchet...why, exactly?

Dean's Impala is now something like that. Actually sticking the toy soldier back in the ashtray and, what? re-carving childish initials into the replacement rear dash? would seem to be distinctly unmagical.

But, like I say, I think too much. What do I know? I'm only a fan.

One thing I do know is that your damn icon is too hot for words. *guh*

Remember, we're here for the magic--repeat that until you've hypnotized yourself.

Now I'm curious. I want to work out just how much and what kind of damage the Imapla actually had, or would have had, if it happened RL. I always figured if that accident had happened in RL, the frame would have been shot and that would have been it but now, I wonder....*G*

Right??? That icon is hot! I have it credited to [livejournal.com profile] lightthesparks.
