We had a big scare Monday. The nursing home I'm struggling to keep my dad in--another story in itself--called to let me know they were sending my dad to the ER, that he'd been vomiting and had a fever.

I get to the ER and find a mess--Dad's freaking out and no one will really tell me what's going on. I spend large amounts of time in the hallway until I finally get some answers. Seemed he had a kidney stone, it blocked the duct from the kidney, led to infection and that of course made all kinds of problems and the doctor told me I should call the family together, that he was almost certainly not going to make it.

I did that, but I had the feeling that my pop wasn't going anywhere and I was right. Today, he's out of the ICU and probably going to go home tomorrow or the next day.

Okay, so here's the thing--the man is 90 years old and swears that any minute, he's about to stroke out. You know what I think? He's gonna be around for a looooooong time. He's like that Cosby routine, that one Cos used to do when he was still funny, about the old men sitting around saying, "Guess I won't be around much longer"--those guys who outlive everyone. ;)

how scary! i'm glad he's feeling enough better that he'll be leaving the hospital soon.

i know the kind of old guy you (and cos) are referring to. my mom used to say that kind of person is "tougher than a pine knot."

Sweetie,

I'm so, so glad that things are going better for you and your dad. It's scary just how quickly things can go south with them health-wise, isn't it?

Speaking from experience get some rest, Roxy. You can't help him, or you, if you're exhausted.

*hugs you very hard*

Thank goodness the dire predictions were less than predictive.

Big hugs to you and Dad,

OH MY. That's one hell of a *nailbite* session. Very glad that he made it out--and yea, my grandma said the same crap, lol. Lived 'til 93, I think. She started saying that junk about 80 or so. *hugs you and daddy-o*

sorry to be late to comment - just got home...so big hugs now.

but i know what you mean about them sticking around. my 93 year old dad has broken both hips, his back, his pelvis and assorted ribs all in separate accidents in the last 6 years. i swear he's going to out live me.

i bought him a new computer (his 3rd) for his b'day last month. cracks me up!!!

hang in there sweets!

What a terrible night both you and your dad must have spent. I'm glad he pulled through. And I remember that Cosby routine. He was incredibly funny once upon a time.
