So when the President of the United States released his birth certificate, I may have blacked out for a few seconds--minutes. America, America, God shed something on you, 'cause you sure need it.

I was going to post my own response to this, but I think [livejournal.com profile] rednihilist said better than I could.

packing my shit and trying to find someplace else to move where there aren't crazy racist retards who run everything. .

Let's all become Canadians!! I hear that there are racist people there too, but the socialists out number them, so what does that matter? Besides, it is the only place in the world where Hockey RPF actually makes any sense and I wouldn't have to go "Huh?" when I see it posted on my F-list.

it's amazing how close minded some people are - no matter where they live and how they just wont believe facts.

Erm... why? I must confess that nobody over here cares that much about our president's birth certificate. ::is curious:: What's so important about Obama's?

http://www.theonion.com/articles/trump-unable-to-produce-certificate-proving-hes-no,20250/ I think this might cheer you up a little. Before all this, I just found Trump a sometimes amusing, sometimes irritating self-promoting blowhard but the crap he pulled is some of the nastiest batch of lies, code words and cynical pandering to the worst elements of the American character ever.

The irony is that McCain was born in the Panama Canal area but it was handwaved. Not a damn thing was said about his birth.

With the GOP first playing games with first stirring it up and then whining about how Obama's wasting time with showing something they've been mewing about for months, they really need to look in the mirror and say "Hmm, I think I know why we've been having a hard time recruiting minorities."

God, sweetie, this whole business just makes me so incredibly ashamed.

We should be busy celebrating that we have such a talented, smart, kick ass president in office right now who's working his butt off trying to fix the mess this country is in. Instead we keep having to deal with these idiots who hide their racism behind their rhetoric, all the while loudly declaring their 'patriotism'.

I want to kick Trump's smarmy face so badly I can taste it and you know I'm not a violent person.

So upsetting. I actually cried when it happened because... for so many reasons that I'm not going to list because I'll just start crying again. I'll just settle with ... this is a bad day for the U.S. and its citizens. I have no idea what's happening - I was pretty politically aware this time ten years ago, even fifteen years ago, and I think I can say with impunity that It - it being every single shitty thing that's happening in the country right now, from birtherism to racism to anti-choicers defunding Planning Parenthood at the state level since they weren't able to accomplish it federally - has not been this bad since I started paying attention.

See, you clearly don't remember the '80's.

It's always been bad. This is just a different brand of fucked up than it was last time or the time before.

Sometimes i just want to throw things at my country.

Yeah, I don't remember the 80s - I was a very small kid during that bit of our nation's insanity. I don't know if it makes me feel better or worse to know that it's been this bad before. Probably worse.

Sometimes i just want to throw things at my country.

Right with you. Or scream at people until they GET it.

I continue to be surprised by how shitty people are... I know that I shouldn't be, but I am. Every single time, it feels like they're pulling the rug out from under me. :(

I'm beginning to think this is as far as we go. It's appalling, the number of racist bigots who swear up and down, and truly *believe*, deep in their hearts of hearts, that they are not only not racist, but wonderfully tolerant when they are no such thing.

What is so important about Obama's is that most people in this country don't want a Black man in the highest office in the land. They were hoping to prove that he wasn't a natural born citizen because only a citizen can be president.

*shakes head* Assholes.

Imagining in any way things that things are different concerning race relations, is just a pipe dream. I do have to say, i don't think women haven't been under attack like this since the early 20th century. I have no idea what's going on in this country that folks think undermining citizen rights is a good thing.

Ha!

Yes, lord. It's harder and harder to believe that there's any agenda here but turning back the clock to the past.

I do have to say, i don't think women haven't been under attack like this since the early 20th century.

It is frankly terrifying. I live in urban Canada right now, where access to birth control is inexpensive and available, and where women's reproductive rights are not being systematically extinguished (yet - we shall see, pending the outcome of the upcoming election - it was recently leaked by a dumbass Conservative MP candidate in Saskatchewan that the Conservatives planned to defund International Planned Parenthood if given a majority - thank you, loud-mouth dumbass for letting the cat out of the bag - Stephen Harper likes to make damn sure that The Plan isn't discussed at all because he knows it would likely result in the Conservatives losing seats), and the contrast between Canadian policy and U.S. policy is staggering. I feel... I feel like if I moved back home, I would literally be under attack. And I really don't understand how this is happening. I don't.

erg--thanks for being able to understand that comment--I think I was still pretty damn steamed, heh.

I don't understand where this hatred is coming from. What will it profit anyone to shove women and people of color back under the wheels of the bus? There's not enough outrage about what's going on--I hope that young people are paying attention, and that they grab back what these old farts are trying to take from them.

It scares me--and I *know* it must be awfully frightening for you.

Back then when the US bill of rights was signed, they should have made sure there was a line that says "Only Caucasians can be president". *shakes head*

And then there are still US people out there wondering why Europe makes fun of them.

BTW, I don't even have a "birth certificate". LOL

I understand being steamed, believe me. ;)

But I think my original comment about racism was rather ignorant and unthinking so I appreciate you calling me out on that privileged viewpoint.

I don't understand where this hatred is coming from.

I don't either. I mean, I could theorize and hypothesize until the cows come home, but it comes down to... I don't UNDERSTAND. :(

I give Obama so much credit for class and restraint. After all this ridiculous bullshit, I would have held up the document on TV and given the haters the overall finger! LOL but that's me.

With everything else that needs our attention, what do we focus on? This crap! And Donald Trump needs to just . . . GO AWAY. or something.
