Fic title: We Used To Be The Loners
Author name: [livejournal.com profile] roxymissrose
Artist name: [livejournal.com profile] hazelnut917
Genre: RPS
Pairing: Jared/Jensen
Rating: R
Word count: 26,072
Warnings: underage OC death by drug overdose(the body), mild drug use, mild sexual activity between underage characters, cursing, physical abuse of a minor hinted at.

Summary: This about four boys—Jared, whose parents haven't quite managed to deal with the death of his older brother, Jensen, abandoned by his mother to an abusive father, Tommy, suffering youngest child syndrome in a family of incredible overachievers, and Mike, trying to stand out in his crowded family while dealing with a sort of benign neglect from his over-stressed parents.
It's a story about what happens over a few days in summer, in an unnamed state somewhere on the east coast, when the boys undertake to find a body abandoned in the woods.

This J2 AU is based (oh so loosely) on Stand By Me, which in turn was based on The Body, by Steven King

I'd like to thank [livejournal.com profile] hazelnut917 for choosing this story, and for the *lovely* art she made for it! Please be sure to stop at her LJ and give her love.
Thanks also to [livejournal.com profile] toldthestars, for once again helping me get this story into readable shape, shoring up the weak spots and for listening to me wibble. A *lot*.

This world is fascinating—it's so interesting to see our world through this lense of church and state. Sam is such an innocent in the story, and true to the SpN universe, that's pretty much chumming the waters. The progression of Sam and Dean's relationship against this background was heartwarming and sadly familar.

it's a sweet story, with the kind of banter between the boys that attracted me to J2 back in the day--she really caught the spirit of two guys talking to each other.

Werewolf stories and me do not always get along, but this was one of the ones that I liked. There were intriguing differences--apparently in this society instinct has morphed into social mores which made perfect sense to me, plus a beta becomes alpha to an alpha and I really loved that part! Here were two weres that really liked each other, and that made the story so much better to me.

Can anyone rec good Suits to me? Good meaning of course angsty as angst cakes drizzled in angst sauce and served with a side of julienned angst? Ha, sorry, it got good to me...*g* Harvey/Mike specifically, because at this point, they are all I care about. I watch it for them. Oh, and Gina because I could watch her read the phone book. The phone book. It's this big yellow book with all the phone num--never mind. Though I could totally see unrequited lust on the part of Louis, who reminds me of a woodchuck, but a completely dangerous one who has rabies.

My SpNBB is 3/4 finished, except for the finishing, kind of epiloguey part which stalled dead in the water like the Mary Celeste, empty of ideas. Why does this always happen to me? Even if I write the ending first. (i do that a lot but it doesn't really help because by the time i've stumbled to an end, most of the time my characters have hijacked the story and run with it).

Off I go to wrestle with the darn thing and then push it all aside to read that second book in the Hunger Games trilogy, wink-wink, nuge-nudge, thanks, a certain someone who loves me. ♥

I've been having fun checking out the snippets at the Spn&J2 BB check-in post. I'm all cocky now because I have a beginning, a middle and an end, heck yeah! It'll be a pretty short BB but what the hey, I'm 99 percent sure that I'll have a finished fic come posting time!

I'm also working hard on my next update for Come The Night. This part is so hard to work on, because I know what's coming next is going to be really intense and these next few chapters are just the bits that get us there. It's hard to work on something when all you can think of is what happens next. I try not to but I always kind of shortchange the transition bits. This, I assume, is what separates pro fiction from the campfire stories. :)

My LJ style is beginning to creep me out--it's looking cold and scary in here. (0_0)

Is time to change!

my SpNBB is at 16500 very, very rough words--I am astounded! I think it will top out at about 20000-25000. I know I shouldn't be greedy, but I wish I could apply some of this energy to my other fic, currently eyeballing me sadly from the corner. No, no, Little Come the Night, Mommy loves you and hasn't forgotten you. If you could just write the next chapter of yourself, I'll do the ending.

So much posting today. :)

eta: oh gosh, sorry SV friends! I thought I'd fixed that! (now i feel guilty...)

...can I get someone to give an eyeball to a bit of the SpNBB I'm working on?

Let me tell you what else I was thinking of. I was thinking about Non Timebo Mala (i include a link because heck yeah i want you to read it), and the parts of the story I didn't tell, and now I kind of want to tell the story of what happened to Sam when he wasn't with Dean. And speaking of filling in the blanks--five years later, I'm still wanting to write an epilogue to Mariposa (another link! read that one too!) so, anyone wanna volunteer to push my brains along on that? I have a vague idea: Lex as a roadshow Charles Xavier...that's about it, really. Where do I go from there? *quivering anime eyes*

Hunh.

Hit 10,000 words on my SpNBB. Not saying they're 10,000 good words but still...I'm thinking I have a good shot at finishing this one before the last hour, no jinx. ;)

Apropos of nothing, does anyone remember why SpN is that and not SN? Just curious. At one point in time, it had almost the same weight as SF versus sci-fi. Which is a story in itself, hah!

God, so dating me!
