Let me ask you something, or, as it would sound in real life if I was talking to you, "lemmeasyoosum-in", Hunters have been hunting for some time, our particular beloved hunters have been hunting for many years...would they still be cleaning their wounds with whiskey and stitching up their booboos with dental floss and carpet needles? I mean, you can get all the real medical shit pretty cheap on the internets. You can get all kinds of emergency first aid supplies. And hell, shit tons of survivalist stuff--I bet MREs would come in handy from time to time--just the kind of shit *I'd* want if I was a hunter.

In my head (and notes) at least one of those duffel bags they shlep around with has to be a warbag, packed with stuff they really need, a hell of a lot more important shit than tube socks and boxers. Though they should always have extra tube socks because dry feet are *very* important. I just can't imagine John not having a fully tricked out kit. I can see him teaching them everything he can about down and dirty stuff for emergencies, but not having clean, efficient equipment? That stuff is as important as their guns and knives.

This is the kind of stuff I think is interesting. And here you can see how overthinky I get about stuff. *G* I mean, sure, you can't make a story out of it but isn't it cool to know?

They started using super glue on wounds in Vietnam (fun fact), so he'd have been aware of it. Aware that the rapid response and medivac by helicopter saved a *lot* of lives.

See, these are the details that folks forget when they're writing! That John was more than just a "crappy" dad, he was a Vietnam vet, a Marine, and obviously an extremely competent guy. He trained two kids so well that they've survived--everything! *G* When I see stories that incorporate that, they make me very happy.

Yeah, I think about this kind of stuff too when I'm sleepless...I'd love to see more fics centered around the technical aspects of their lives. The best ones are almost always gen...*sigh*

And yes - whatever John's flaws, he was a smart, skilled warrior who passed on *all* of that knowledge. Our boys are badass, and i hate stories that show them as otherwise. (And episodes that dumb them down.)

Yes, damn it. I hate when the writers take short cuts and indulge in cheap shots for a laugh. *Sam* confusing Metatron with a Transformer...can you imagine writing that in a fanfic? I might be able to buy it from Dean--*might*, but Sam? Oy.

YES! Yeesh. Dean, absolutely, mostly because he never believed in angels in the first place, so having a really in-depth knowledge of them wouldn't be a priority for him and also - he'd say it just to be snarky!

Oh yeah, just to see that face Sam makes. In my head, Sam thinks he's smarter than Dean because of stuff like that. Dean makes jokes and lets Sam's little digs slide and Sam always underestimates him...though really, deep down inside, he knows Dean's no dummy. It's complicated--why, just like siblings! ;)
