I was just telling Mr. R how privileged our generation has been to have grown up with so many genuine heroes. One died today. Nelson Mandela was an inspiration to so many of my generation, and hopefully to the young folks today.

It really is. I'm sad that a lot of young folks probably don't get how sad the news is.

It's a very rare individual who can effect change, by themselves, because they will not be denied. He was a giant, who stood on his own shoulders.

You just hope among the young ones coming along there will be some that are inspired by him to effect changes of their own.

Very sad news, but we are indeed priviledged to have lived in the world with someone like him. *hugs*

Such devastating news, such a huge loss to the world. I kind of feel grateful to live in a time that new such a man.

A true giant among men.

I've been reading tributes and quotes all afternoon and crying my eyes out--not from sorrow, but from, I don't know, just the huge emotion of having lived on the same planet at the same time as this great man.

Yes!!! Oh *yes*, this exactly! I couldn't find the words to explain to Mr R where the tears came from--he seemed to understand but you put it perfectly.

Thank god for people like Nelson Mandela willing to take a stand for their beliefs!

So, so true--without them, where would we be? It takes a special kind of courage to act on one's beliefs.
