I happened to be thinking about this subject lately, so I was very surprised to see it's being knocked around. I'm thinking that yes, it's a good thing to warn people, and now that I see how it's possible to do so without spoiling your story or whatnot, I will. Most of my personal posts aren't really all that personal and if it is something extremely personal, I stuff it behind a cut, I also have filters, but doing that to a *story* (unless it's in tryouts--i do that sometimes) kind of defeats the purpose of posting it, right? So, remind me to do the warning thing from now on. You know I'm going to forget about a bazillion times before it becomes habit. Also, please don't rush to tell me why it's not a good idea, and how you'll never do it, because I don't care.

I've put spoiler warnings or additional warnings at the end of a fic and told people about it at the top in A/N. Is there a neater way to do it?

I think that's fine--but warning for death in a recent story I wrote might have spoiled it, even though I seriously considered it. So, this way makes it good for every one!

'inviso' code:(span style="color:black; background:black;" title="highlight to read warnings" ) insert text (/span) - change ( ) to < >

Doesn't show up until you highlight it! :)

Hmmm, I've had this happen on some of my posts by accident and it drives me crazy because I didn't know the code to go in and erase to get rid of it. Now I know, plus I can use it to hide future warnings. Thanks very much for the help.

I NEVER DO IT!!!

Hehe.

But, to be fair, i don't really write about anything that seems to be the top ten of triggery stuff, like sexual assault and torture and child abuse and such.....

*twirls you*

OMG, WHAT DID I SAY?????

True, true, you really don't--but I do from time to time, and you know I'm not really good at separating 'tsk-tsk' from 'holy shit, wtf!!" If it makes folks feel comfortable, than it's not really a big deal. I'm pretty sure most folks on my friends list know what they're getting here anyway. ;)

Heeeeeeeeeee.
Yeah, you have hit some dark spots in a few stories. 'Dog' was one that i could not and did not read, and i can see it being an 'issue' for others, as well.

And the Russian one - my memory for names sucks hard - that was pretty gruely from time to time.....

I *have* been told by a couple of readers that the drug-taking aspect of 'Tumble, Turn, Overflow' was too much for them, and i was honestly surprised 'cause i didn't think i'd gotten all that realistic so....it was bad 'cause i felt sorry i'd upset them, but also kinda cool that i got it right.

Sometimes, being a writer means also being a bit of a jerk.

Well, yeah. *g* I'd be lying if I said that I didn't set out to get a strong reaction from The Dog, but really, I wasn't expecting it to be as grueling as it was. It wore me out writing it. The Russian one, Firebird, did have some really squicky moments, true.

Squicky--hah! Parts of that bitch were sick as shit! The good old days....

the few things i've written, i'd need to warn for happy endings, peace, love, and understanding. angst? fuggeddaboudit. but when i read your stories, i know to belt in tight for a wild ride, and that's fine!

I have mixed feelings about warnings. In some ways they're spoilers but others...well I've read some fic that really SHOULD have had a few warnings. Things I would NOT read if I'd known about it going in.

But things like OFC...really, do we NEED a warning that there's an OFC?

Nah, but I totally get warning for a fic featuring BDSM, or non-con, or underage sex--the big ticket stuff. I never warn for incest in SpN because it's right there in my header, but I probably would (now) for Lucas/Lex, which almost always is non-con and really fucked up. Damn...I miss those boys.

Yeah that stuff should have a warning. Wincest kind of implies the Wincest. It has it in the name, but you never know. There are people that might not figure it out.

I miss a lot of fandom stuff too. Does summer make us nostalgic or something?

Good for you! I do the warning things but then when I do a story that's got no sex I put in a warning for that too. *g* No, seriously, when I write a story that should have sex and it just didn't let me get it in there, I warn 'no sex'. I had someone thank me for that once. *shrugs*

I've only been asked to warn for something once and that was a miscarrage in a Clex mpreg I wrote. I said thanks for telling me and slapped a warning on the puppy. Just makes sense to me.

Oh, very much sense, very much!

I warn for shmoop, because it freaks me out when I do a completely shmoopy piece! *G*
