Oy--vey ist mir
3/26/10 03:30 amI'm not getting enough sleep. Part way through the day, I forget what day it is. Not too surprising I guess, it's just odd. I'm not sure if the staying up forever is insomnia or nosiness. They say old folks don't need as much sleep. Is that a perk of getting old? If so, it's a pretty crappy one.
Today, at work, one of the boys working at customer service faked a British accent for most of the afternoon. I'm kind of embarrassed to admit I thought it was pretty hilarious. I call the boy Chuck Norris because once he wore a name tag labeled, you guessed it, Chuck Norris. He promised me he wouldn't punch my soul out, so we became friends. Also, I got into a heated argument with one of those boys about the fabulousness of Daneel's Boobies. He dared to argue against them. Fool. Those Boobies rule the world. Anyway, I blamed it on the insomnia.
I think I'm tired enough to go to bed now. I have many, many, many comments to answer, and want to thank folks for the many many kind words about my Big Bang whine. Giant shmooshy thank-yous to all the people who offered to help, I love you so much! I'm also going to mail you copies of this thing, brand new copies, more cleaned up and readable now, with some changes and a smidgen more nasty thrown in. Good night, my beloved ones! Tomorrow, I'll be at skip kazillion, but I swear to catch up on you, especially if you wrote porn (and if you wrote porn, let me know!) MMMMMMM-WAH!!

I have the occasional 'brain won't stop!!' sleepless night, and it totally sucks - i would hate for it to be something that happened *often*, jeez.
Chuck Norris sounds like a blast. You should research the tiny fishing town he comes from in England, give him some backstory!
Heeeeeeee.
*cough*
Um. I didn't write any porn, so sorry, but....
One of my OC's is based (loosely) on you? That do it for you?

3/26/10 02:38 pm (UTC)Oh, no, the boy who argued against the Boobies foolishly thought there were other boobies finer. Ha! There are no other Boobies!

4/1/10 04:46 pm (UTC)It's worse when you loose track of time since 'yesterday' becomes 'the period before I last slept.' And many times 'yesterday' can span 2 or 3 actual days.
I've gotten to the point where if I absolutely have to sleep, for appointments or something I just can't miss, I have to exhaust my brain first before I can attempt it. And the only sure-fire way I've found for myself is through math.
If I run through the 11's multiplication table mentally as I'm trying to sleep I can make it to about 150 before passing out. As time goes by the number is getting lower and lower so I'm hoping that before I'm 35 my brain will be 'trained' to go to sleep by doing those numbers. I also make sure I lay in the exact same position with my hair pulled away from my face after doing the same routine each time.
And why the multiplication tables for 11? Cause they're easier to run through mentally. Once you hit 10+ you just separate the two digits that need multiplied and add them together, the result gets plugged into the middle of the original 2 numbers. If the number ends up being a 2 digit number then the ten's number gets added to the first one.
48 x 11 = 528
4 + 8 = 12....1(from the 12) + 4 = 5....5 2(from the 12) 8 = 528
Maybe this might inspire you to come up with your own brain exhaustion tricks to get some much needed rest from time to time. Maybe thinking of fanfic might work for you ^_^

4/1/10 05:26 pm (UTC)Many of my friends don't understand how I can be awake for 36-52 hours at a time and then crash for 4 just to do it again when it's summer time.
Wow! You do that on the regular? Dang! I used to do that occasionally when I was a kid, and back then I thought it was fun, but geez...*shudders*
As for your method of wearing yourself out...hah! I think I will stick with the fanifc, lol!

4/1/10 05:41 pm (UTC)Well I'd play these "games" at night, sneaking around the house like I was on a mission with my brother. We'd sneak down the hall and dart into the bathroom whenever my grandmother was sitting in her chair to watch her shows at night. The bathroom's medicine cabinet would be carefully opened and the mirror used to watch what she was doing.
We'd wait quietly till her head rested on her hand and then we'd belly crawl around the corner, under the squeaky chairs, between the breakfast table's legs. We'd wait till the commercials would start, hiding in the shadows of the table, and grandma would get up and wash some dishes till her show would come on again.
We'd belly crawl again around the fireplace and then crawl behind the dining room table and wait again for the commercials. When she was on her way back to her chair we'd have to time it, her passing us and our attempts at making it into the kitchen since it was lit up.
Once we made it into the kitchen we'd walk into the den, and into the attached large bathroom. From there we'd move into the laundry room where the prize waited. The candy/treats fridge. Where all manner of cakes and cookies and fruit drinks waited to be eaten.
We would eat and drink and then quietly wash out our mouths and then when we were ready...We'd scream loudly as we were racing back to our room. Why? Cause we knew we'd get a spanking. LOL
We'd do this till about 4 in the morning, every day. Without fail. And I'd probably would have done it more if I was awake to do so. But 6am would roll around and my eyes would pop open and I'd race around the house, getting dressed, collecting my backpack, and then be off to kindergarten to start my day of school.
And it wasn't one of those half day jobs either. Kindergarten ran from 8am till 330pm. And it wasn't surprising that my teacher would shake her head in exasperation when I'd lay on my mat during nap time, tapping my belly with my hands and wiggling my feet, waiting for her to say that I could get back up again.
My grandmother now? Well, I'm lucky if I can get her to sleep more than an hour a night when I go visit. And my aunt says she's actually getting more sleep when I'm down there to see her than usual. So, I'm thinking it's a hereditary thing...dratted insomnia.
NINJA SKILLZ!
