Can you deal with more whining?
5/26/10 11:31 pmI wrote myself into a corner. I don't know how to go forward. It's sapping my enthusiasm for writing in general, and that makes me unhappy because I love my baby and I want to finish it. Imagine the saddest, unhappiest face in all the world, and then triple that. Yeah, that's me. And on top of this big suck sundae, there's a horrible whaaaa-life-sucks sauce. I'm leaving for the weekend with the Couples, the people we get together with once a month and go to dinner with and then play, like, Uno and stuff with...oh shut the fuck up. This is what you do when you're crazy in love with someone who wants to have some kind of a social life. Why can't we just hook up with wrinkly old swingers like normal bored old people do?
Yes, here's what I'm going to do. I'm not writing fanfic anymore. Instead, I will write about my life. That's right, it'll be all about me. More all about me. Like, 99% about me. My life, ripped from the headlines, as it were. And if nothing interesting happens, I'll just lie. No, wait, I mean make something up. No, I think I mean embellish. Embroider. Nah, lie's the word.
While I wait for you to dry your tears and hush your heart-broken sobbing, let me share some good news. Mr. R bought a new (new-ish) car! Huzzah! His car, the hardest working Subaru in car biz, has finally dropped to the curb and given up the ghost. Ten years old, and it gave its all. Ach, Slave!Car, we'll sort of miss you but not too much--you kind of smelled like old tuna fish and machine oil and your AC only functioned if the temp was under 75. I could turn the wheel easily back in my forties but lately...not so much. You taught me that power steering was not just for pussies. Goodbye, God speed, and we know you won't be clogging up any landfills; you're 90% rust right now.
So, in conclusion, car—yay! No fic—boo! No fic bloody likely in the near future without heavenly intervention, big boo.

5/27/10 05:22 am (UTC)As for the story, it's NTM and it's not so much what I've posted that screws with me--it's that I counted too much on the info being easy to find when I started writing it. Thing is, I'm stuck trying to find what equipment a gunsmith would use-specifically, could one person, working alone, make a Colt Paterson type revolver. I found information that handguns are made today by blacksmiths in some African countries and seem to be pretty much one-man jobs, but it's the machines I need!

5/27/10 06:18 am (UTC)Hrmmmmm.... You don't have to be *too* specific - we don't have a clue what it took to make a gun! But - there might be some info here:
http://www.history.org/foundation/journal/autumn00/gunsmith.cfm
http://www.history.org/almanack/life/trades/tradegunfou.cfm
http://www.nps.gov/spar/historyculture/making-guns.htm
It seems like a lot of the parts were made via forging and casting, which don't really take much in the way of machines.... Plus a lathe, i'm sure, and a series of files and rasps....
And ask at little_details! You'd be amazed what people can come up with.
*smishes you*
