Interesting...to me.

The first time I read Nostrilla--ages and ages and ages ago in the time of the sabertooth, I had a hard time understanding it. I thought the main character was a mook and the writing style too simple and kind of childish, but it also had this trippy, fairy tale quality about it that kept me reading. (ah-- the good old days when every page of an SF book was a new journey into strangeness and wonder.)

I started reading it again during the Great Whiteout, and now-- I find the main character simple and innocent, trusting--but with a streak that's not as innocent as people think and a bit of a temper, the writing style too, simple and clean but also kind of lyrical...hah! listen to me.

Also, I keep seeing Aliem Boy as the main character. Strange, no?
It's not something I normally do, but I keep making parallels to Clark.Hmmm.

Anyway, the book is Norstrilla, by Cordwainer Smith and you really should check it out.

Gee- we read a lot of the same books, I know almost everything on your list an it reminds me I have to read Alfred Bester again too. I haven't really found anything that grabs me like these guys did. Is it because I'm suffering from Granpa Syndrome? I just picked up A book of collected shorts, maybe I'll find someone who captures my interest.

In the meantime, may I suggest you check out paragrapher's journal? he posts a little ficlet daily and often they're absolute gems.
