See, really that would be the realistic and logical thing to do, but I always get impatient when I come in sight of the end of a story. Another worry I had was, even though my story abounds in cliche, I thought an extended courtship would be one cliche too many...but dang. Hmmmm. Thinking hard--but positive thinking! *g*
