Good news! We talked to the surgeon yesterday, and he was certain, looking at Mr. R's scans, that there was *no* tumor on the pituitary gland. He said that it was swollen, but this was also extremely common and not anything to worry too much about. Blood tests will come next and if they are clear, all he has to do next is get another scan in six months. Doctor said there may be a possibility that Mr. R is experiencing ocular migraine without pain. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing? He isn't experiencing any other migraine-like symptoms.

I'm so beyond relieved I actually feel a little stunned, guys. I'm so glad that I can share some good news with you!

I am a chronic migraine sufferer, we're talking one awful spell where I had 44 straight days of agonizing migraine pain. But I've only ever had one occular migraine, and that was completely without pain or any other symptoms. So it can happen.

So glad to hear this good news!

OMG! You poor, poor thing!!! I can't imagine that!

We're damn grateful and hope that that's what's going on with him--it was a relief to know he wouldn't have to go through surgery. :)

Thank goodness!

I do get migraines and have occasionally (once or twice) had one that looked for all the world like it was going to be a migraine but no pain. I get visual disturbances called aura (they kind of look like the spots you see when you press hard on your eyeballs and hold for a minute), then light sensitivity, sound sensitivity and very, very rarely nausea. Plus pain. Oh, and it's really super-hard to think. It's like I know I need to do X but the steps to go from where I am to actually doing X are impossible to figure out.

I have to say what you described did sound like a painless migraine to me. Much better that than something worse, really!

*all the hugs*

First, I'm sorry you have to go through something like that. *HUGS*

Second, okay, I pressed on my eyeball and didn't see spots but boy, it really kinda hurt and now my eyeball hates me....

I hope that's all he'll ever experience of it. It's so odd though, that such things can be! And now, I know what the inside of my beloved's head looks like. Hmmm, that's probably kinda weird to say. :D

My dad gets ocular migraines once in a while. The first time he got one, he thought his retina had detached again because it didn't hurt, but it was throwing some weird visuals his way.

That's what I was worried about in the very beginning but it was quickly crossed off the list, thank goodness--my dad had also suffered from a detached retina.

Thank goodness about the non-tumor!

I sometimes get an assortment of migraine symptoms without the actual headache, and now that I'm not bewildered and scared about what-the-heck is happening (since a doctor explained it to me), I'm very cool with the omission. Sometimes it's a stabbing pain in one eyeball + nausea, or eardrum pain + neck pain, or whatnot. Sometimes my vision and/or mood will be off-kilter for days before I get additional symptoms.

Hugs!

J

Oh man--that must have been so scary, not knowing what the hell was going on! He's complained about neck pain sometimes too, but with his job, we pretty much blame everything on work. I'll tell him to pay more attention to odd aches and pains. And thank you! :)
