I have a confession to make. Please don't yell at me and tell me I'm a fool, I know it.

I can't watch Lex be that bad guy. I don't want to see it, it doesn't make me happy, I'm not all excited by EvilLex--I don't even really like it all that much in fic. I'll read an EvilLex fic, depending on the author because excellent writing makes even the most awful idea a pleasure to read. (in a hurty owie kind of way) but as we know, this is not the case in SV.

I want them to be friends forever, I want Lex to say, "Oh, no thanks, no evil, I'll have really good sex for a lifetime instead." I want Clark to look at him with almost as much amazement as he did in the beginning...(not as awed anymore, 'cause he knows Lex likes to eat crackers in the bed and shove the crumbs on Clark's side)

I know how the story is supposed to end, and I know I'm supposed to want it. But you know it's making me so sad that I can barely even write them anymore. Stupid, I know. I'm happy for the folks who can't wait, I kind of envy them. Exactaly what they want is going to happen, and it should happen.
I just don't want it to.

I just have to remember that Smallville is just one possible AU, and that in the real Universe (i.e. the Boys of Summer-verse, the FFL-verse, the Identical-verse--you know, one of the real ones) the boys are all Happily Ever After.

I might have been able to deal with the rift if the writers had done it properly. As it is...I just think Smallville ended after Asylum, and Clark told Lex the truth after a heartwrentching argument, and then they have make-up sex on a hay bale...and live clexily ever after!

I can't write dark fic or read it unless there is h/c at the end.

Wow! I hadn't exactly realized what my problem was but you nailed it on the head. I don't want to see Lex be evil. I don't want to know how the rift happens. I don't want it to happen at all... The continuation of the show to its inevitable conclusion is sucking all the joy out of it for me. Frankly, this is why I didn't watch the show in the beginning or reads the fics--I was afraid it would all be way too depressing. Then I got sucked in and most of the fic written in the first few seasons either ignored the rift or fixed it... I find it so hard stay in that positive mindset now given where the show has gone. And I find it almost impossible to completely erase canon from my mind. *sigh*

I stopped watching after S3 (except for the one with 2 Lexes), and in my own private Smallville, everything diverged after S2: the boys are together 4-EVA, and even if Clark becomes Superman, it'll be with Lex as his partner. So there.

I'm not even sure I'll see the new Superman movie, though that has as much to do with my feelings about Chris Reeve as it does with not wanting to see Lex reduced again to a Charicature of EEEvillll! (no matter how much I like Kevin Spacey).

What's been sad about the fandom is watching so many fic writers give up on the CLex-verse and move on to other fandoms, often leaving epics unfinished. So: keep hope alive! Keep writing AU CLex!

*hugs you tight* I know exactly what you mean!! And I have make a confession ... I haven't actually watched an episode since Bo Kent died ... I have the episodes on tape (somewhere) but haven't had any interest for some reason.

*sigh* At least we HAVE fanfic writers like yourself who can make sure that Lex is always just where we want him, in that bed eating cookies and shoving the crumbs over to Clarks' side. After all, invulnerable skin won't care, right? Right!!

I wouldn't have minded the slide to evil or misguidedness if it was written well which you all know, SV isn't. Even a lot of the people wanting Evil!Lex aren't getting what they want. That show . . . is just Almiles wanky Mary!Sue fanfic where all that matters is that some vapid girl's feelings get hurt. I feel fine in ignoring canon considering SV!canon contradicts itself a thousand times over.

So my cure is to write s5 clex where Lex isn't headed for certain evil, but that keeps up with the ambivalence and salvation that the show seemed to promise in the early years.

That's what I count on from the writers.
I think part of the reason I feel so goofy about feeling this way is that I did come in with a comic book background, I knew it was going to happen and thought I was prepared. Hah! So much for that. MR is too good at building sympathy for Lex.

I agree that SV show's a very unpleasant version of Clark. He *is* judgmental, unforgiving and more like a superbot than Superman. I don't know how they plan to change that, unless the show actually thinks that's what Superman is. In which case, it's as I suspected, SV's been a showcase for a minor character all along--Lana Lang. *g*

Clark and chews the scenery and after, asks Clark for forgiveness which Clark immediately gives him. Not like now, where Clark doesn't even give a shit about him.
