I reread the story last night as I was going to sleep and have to say again how fabulous it is. I still don't feel like I understand Alexei's actions toward Kirill at the end after seems to have figured out that he needs Kirill (aka, the I love you, No, I don't. Ha ha! incident). I was reminded of how well Kirill's philosophical stance worked for the story. I adore that he fashions Alexei into a god. Fabulous.
The style of your writing and luscious details and description is just as wonderful as I remembered. For all it's violence - and that revenge scene with Boris really hits high on the gross-out meter - I really enjoy reading it.
I don't mean to sound like I'm giving backhanded compliments. I just am acknowledging that it is a challenging story. I hope you know that it pretty much rocks my world. :) What a treat to reread it.

4/17/06 03:58 pm (UTC)I know that bit bothered you, I see it still does, *g* but I saw that whole thing as Alexei torturing Kirill, and himself as well. He just won't admit that. He's a strange boy. *nods*
I still have to finish young Alexei's story, and I've got some research and notes for bringing them to America. I finally got an idea that will work, I think! YaY me!

4/16/06 07:16 am (UTC)And boy, you did a fantastic job depicting Boris' evil, because by the end I actually wanted Kirill to torture him *more,* and that scene was already pretty gruesome.
I loved the way Alexei tamed Kirill (sort of), starting with that opening scene where he makes him strip and then just clean his boots (damn!), but I also loved the ways Alexei is drawn against his will to Kirill--especially that scene right after he has loaned him to Felix.
I love the fearlessness of your writing--I've seen a lot of scenarios and AUs where Clark and/or Lex are twisted or evil, but they tend to pull their punches so as not to alienate the reader. I love the way you just follow them down their logical path, ending with the incineration of the whole village.
And I have to say, my favorite bit in the whole story was this part: "A house in Saint Petersburg." jab "you deserve to die" jab "for being so stupid" jab "If you'd shown my boy a minute of love" jab "a single kind word"-- and he ground his finger down into the wound as Boris screamed like a dying rabbit--"you'd have all of Russia now." He stood and watched Boris' chest heave frantically as he fought not to pass out.
"Instead you get to contemplate how nasty your last few hours on this earth are going to be. I've come to reclaim what's mine Voronkov. I don't like that you've been playing with it."
That was such an amazing, satisfying story. I loved it.

there are covers for them, right!???!
(sorry, but my memory for artwork and manips is not as good as for fics *g*, I like visuals very much (thus owning the vids comm) but the main action is moreover in my own mind :D
