My friends list is *full* of folks who aren't here anymore or who have wandered away from this place. If I defriend these no-longer active accounts, are they still counted as friends on my profile page? It seems silly to have this huge count when it's not even true. Though I know that personally I'm more comfortable cold-friending people when I see they have a billion friends--kind of that slip in all unnoticed thing. I know this is just going to end up another round of me unsuccessfully trying to clean house. The last time I defriended folks, I think I cut three journals that hadn't been updated since 2006. I'm such a doof. I mean--they're not even *there*! They won't care or notice. But what if they do and I hurt their feelings???

Why am I such a weinie?

I'm this way about picking one brand of coffee over the other, too.

It always makes me sad when I go through my flist and take off people who haven't posted in two years or more. There are so many disappearing from LJ :/

I know how you feel. I know I friended with people for a reason (probably because I loved a fic or art of theirs) but if they haven't updated in a while, I ought to defriend them. Then I think, what if I defriend them, then right after I do, they post something awesome and I miss it?

I feel your pain.

You have to be sensitive with those coffees. Some roasts can be really sensitive. *nods*

Heee!
I dunno - why houseclean? If they're not posting, then they're not cluttering up your flist with crap you don't care about, and you don't have a limit to the number of people you can friend, so..... What's the point?

I don't ever look at anyone's profile page when i friend, i just friend off the little menu that pops up off their icon and that's that.

I do miss the days were it used to take me forever to get through my flist because there has been so much interesting activity, and fic and meta and show talk been going on while I've been asleep or away from the internet.

LJ is quiet lately :(

Coffee, no, no. You buy either Café La Llave (green can) or Café Bustelo (yellow can) and you mix that 50/50 with French Market Coffee (red can). HEAVEN.

(I have no advice on defriending, since I'm just like you).

Well I don't think you'll hurt the feelings of people who aren't active anymore, but it's totally reasonable to worry about the emotional state of coffee. I know this is true, because it is full of caffeine, and that makes coffee unstable and twitchy. You don't want to upset that sort of personality. Daaaangerous.

Oh, me too, moreso at Daisy than here. Honestly, I have no idea who a lot of the names are, or were. I'm trying to get used to senior moments. ;)

I'm almost never here at this account, but pls. to be keeping it on your list, so I feel included. :D

There used to be a time when a person's profile page meant something! You'd try to make that shit appealing, and decorate it and stuff... And it was great. I could spend hours just looking at folks' profiles.

Now? Nothing. Nobody cares anymore (or is here anymore). :(

As for friends cuts, I am going to throw a wrench into this consensus and say that I make cuts often. I like the tidiness. And I just feel weird keeping journals attached when there's nobody on the other end of the line anymore. It makes me sad, but I do it anyway. I only keep the people who were very good friends: like you said, I don't want them to check in someday (for kicks) and think that I don't want them around anymore.
